Why do I choose the additives, that I use in my soaps?
Many have qualities that are supposed to be beneficial to the skin. However, this a wash off product. It is soap it will cleanse your face and body. I have listed the additives I use in my artisanal soaps here with some of the supposed benefits. PLEASE do your own research.
Activated Charcoal is reputed to remove excess oil, remove skin impurities, and mild skin exfoliation.
Clove Essential Oil is reputed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also reputed to have anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal properties.
African Black Soap Crumbles are reputed to be an exfoliant, have antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties, and soothes irritated skin.
Beer has hops as well barley which has a ton of vitamins, and antioxidants which may benefit skin. There is a debate ongoing on how much of these properties survive saponification but it makes a great bar of soap.
Calamine Powder consists of zinc oxide, and iron oxide. It is reputed to help dry acne, soothes irritated skin, and has mild antiseptic properties.
Cocoa Butter contains vitamin E which is reputed to be beneficial for skin.
Coffee grounds are reputed to be a mild exfoliate for the skin.
Jojoba oil is non-comedogenic, and it is reputed to have anti-inflammatory properties which are soothing and calming for irritated skin.
Kaolin Clay is reputed to have the following skin benefits: gentle exfoliation, removing impurities from the skin, soothing to irate skin, helps reduce excess oil production.
Oatmeal is reputed to lock in moisture thus re-hydrating the skin, soothe itching.
Pine tar is reputed to be anti-pruritic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal.
Rose (Pink) clay is reputed to be exfoliating , remove impurities, soothe skin irritation, and anti-inflammatory
Rosehip Powder has vitamin C, reputed to be an antioxidant.
Sea salt has minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium, reputed to remove dirt and toxins, antibacterial, non-drying, and a natural exfoliant.
Shea Butter is reputed to be beneficial for people with dry skin, has anti-inflammatory properties to soothe irritated skin, stimulates collagen production.
Tamanu oil is reputed to be anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, to hep soothe rashes as well as minor burns, help improve skin texture.
Turmeric is reputed to have following skin benefits: antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that are believed to be beneficial.
